
11. Improvement of the capacity to use soils
Our land improvement works have been shown to affect the LCC Land Capability Classification by converting entire agricultural areas, with numerous and severe limitations on productivity, to classes that include them under excellent agronomic conditions. All our interventions, the subject of scientific publications in collaboration
with university institutes, demonstrate the results obtained. Among the properties of the soils improved by the reconstitution are also those that until now are considered permanent and unchangeable.
As extensively explained on this site, the properties considered in the Land Capability Classification on which reconstitution works by improving them are:
- Useful depth at the roots
- Water available
- Skeleton ? petrity
- Rockiness
- Salinity
- Surface drainage
- Internal drainage
- Erosion.
In addition, the functional characteristics of chemical fertility considered in the classification of soil use are improved:
- Reaction
- Base saturation rate
- Cation exchange capacity
- ESP
The improvements in soil characteristics resulting from the reconstitution listed above are only those considered in the classification procedures but, it is important to clarify, the technology involves further contributions on many other parameters.
