Thanks to ROP ERDF 2021/2027 ACTION 1.2.3 "Support for the digitalisation of enterprises, including system actions for digital" iThe MCM Project Ecosistemi Srl affirms itself in the context of the efficiency of analyses in the field of the circular economy of waste through the centralization of material characterization services for the verification of technological properties in the CE marking.
With the title of the project "Innovation in Environmental Services with the digitization and development of a centralized multifunctional analysis laboratory for the environmental and productive sustainability of recoverable waste (End of Waste)?" the mcm laboratory Ecosistemi has been able to develop its business segment by centralising its analysis services in a single location.

The funding allowed the realization of the proposed project to integrate digital technologies with the quality and efficiency of services, increasing the sustainability of operations and offering customers a complete, functional and sustainable service. The intervention included digital data analysis and management systems that will allow rapid and precise coordination. The automation of some analyses allows a more efficient use of resources, improving logistic sustainability, in fact, the centralized merging of services is extremely rare in national laboratories.
Overall, the project co-financed by the Emilia Romagna Region has enabled the following activities to be carried out:
– Advice on the implementation of digital maturity assessment
post-intervention;
– Website application – area dedicated to laboratory services – download tools for confidential analysis reports;
– Consultancy for the management of laboratories
– ZEISS EVO 10 Scanning Electron Microscope
– Tables for microscope and compression machine
– MULTILOADER compression machine with digital control panel, motorised actuator
– two-column structure and movable crossbar. Capacity 50 kN including accessories
– PC software for Marshall tests, CBR, indirect and universal traction

In line with regional sustainability policies, the project will improve operational efficiency, strengthening the positioning of MCM Ecosistemi in the market for environmental services, with a positive impact on competitiveness and corporate social responsibility at regional and extra-regional level.
Thanks to the funded project, the purchase of the ZEISS EVO 10 electron microscope (SEM) with integrated EDX AZtec One with Xplore 15 probe was realized, for the execution of X-ray microanalysis; the peculiarity of the instrument is also represented by the Lanthanum Hexaboride (LaB6) source, which guarantees greater brightness, greater scanning speed and the possibility of working at extremely high vacuum levels compared to the classic tungsten source; possibility of being able to work in high vacuum (standard conditions) or (second peculiarity) with variable pressure, with gas in the chamber, allowing the analysis of non-conductive or non-metallic samples;
The implementation of this instrumentation allows us to perform qualitative/quantitative asbestos research analyses in low concentrations (between 100 mg/kg and 10000 mg/kg ? 0.01 ? 1 %) on various types of matrices:
Soils/soils in accordance with Table 1 All. 5 to Part IV of Legislative Decree 152/06 and smi;
Characterization of massive materials and materials containing asbestos (MCA) such as ballasts, obsolete insulation, stucco samples, coatings of old pipes, friable materials, paints according to the provisions of DM 06/09/1994 OJ SO n. 288 of 10/12/1994 All. 1 Met. B;
Analysis of media for the sampling of airborne fibres in accordance with Ministerial Decree 06/09/1994 OJ SO No 288 of 10/12/1994 Annex 2 Met. B making it possible to comply with the new limits on quantification laid down in Legislative Decree No 213 of 31 December 2025, which significantly amended the asbestos chapter of Legislative Decree No 81/2008 (Consolidated Safety Text);
Characterisation in compliance with the legal limits laid down in Ministerial Decree No 127 of 28 June 2024, Annex 1 (100 mg/kg) for the recovered aggregate matrix;
Characterisation as part of the classification of demolition waste and waste from contaminated or asbestos-containing lands and rocks;
Characterization and classification of wastes consisting of insulating material (FAV classification) thanks to the combined SEM analysis for the determination of the average geometric diameter weighted on the length of the fibers and the EDS / EDX analysis for the determination of the content of oxides of alkali and alkaline-earth metals. This combined analysis makes it possible to discriminate between glass/rock wool and refractory ceramic fibres (FCR), a fundamental determination because the dangerousness (carcinogenicity) of the two materials is very different.
