Accreditation of the molecular microbiology laboratory of Ecosistemi for the determination of Legionella spp by the method ISO/TS 12869:2019

This further accreditation allows, in the context of drinking water, to determine the presence or absence of the genus Legionella spp with extreme sensitivity and speed, integrating with the already existing accreditation of the cultivation technique according to UNI-EN ISO 11731:2017. This will result in a faster response to customers interested in managing the risk prevention for Legionellosis, as decided by Legislative Decree No. 18 of 23 February 2023.

In Italy, the legislation on the control of Legionella is regulated by several main measures:
Legislative Decree No 102/2025 (in force since 19 July 2025): extends Legionella risk monitoring and management obligations to buildings such as: accommodation facilities, hospitals, RSAs, gyms, swimming pools, campsites, schools with sports facilities. It introduces the figure of the GIDI (Internal Distribution Water Manager) and provides for severe penalties with fines of up to 150,000 ? and arrest in the most serious cases.
Legislative Decree No 18/2023, which regulates the quality of water intended for human consumption; sets the regulatory safety limit for Legionella at < 1000 CFU/l (Cologne Formants Unit per litre).
Legislative Decree No 81/2008 (Consolidated Law on Safety at Work): including Legionella as a group 2 biological agent (Title X, Annex XLVI). The Decree obliges the employer to carry out the risk assessment (DVR Legionella) and to prepare prevention and protection measures
