On 29 September at the Faculty of Engineering of Sapienza in Via Eudossiana, the report on the reuse of sediments in the agricultural sector through the application of pedotechnology of reconstitution was presented at the ITCOLD seminar.
The seminar, organized and promoted by ITCOLD (The Italian National Committee for Great Dams), was held in the historic headquarters of the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering, located on Colle Oppio, adjacent to the Church of San Pietro in Vincoli.

The oral presentation of Dr. Paolo Manfredi, accompanied by a series of diagrams and videos, initially exposed the possibilities of reusing the sediments accumulated in the reservoirs from the perspective of the current legislative framework, exposing the potential criticalities and advantages on the use of dredging sludge. The report of the President of Ecosistemi subsequently presented the results obtained through the soil engineering of the reconstitution and the great potential of these matrices in the use as pedomaterials in the production of fertile soils through specific treatments supported by the strict criteria dictated by the soil sciences. The intervention represented a moment of encounter between disciplines that rarely have the opportunity to confront each other and gave rise to an interesting opening of application horizons in the field of applied pedology and circular economy.

Pedotechnology applied to the conversion of dredging sludge to Anthroposols for reconstitution appears to be one of the most sustainable approaches to solving the serious problem of dam burial: It represents a great opportunity for the solution of the restoration of desertified areas, for the regeneration of lonely, waterproofed sites and for the recovery of lost agricultural and forestry areas.
