Following the assessment of the strong problems of soil sealing, the excess water caused by flooding and the thickness of sediment deposited by turbid soils, a sampling campaign was carried out to identify the main properties of soils and sediments.

Following the surveys carried out by Prof. Guglielmo Costa and Prof. Gilmo Vianello in some farms affected by the floods of last May, and in particular adjacent to the course of the Lamone River, noting the strong problems of soil sealing, excess water caused by flooding and the thickness of sediment deposited by turbid soils, samples were carried out to identify the main properties of soils and sediments.

In the hilly areas, the turbid sediments have appeared to be silty-sandy, while in the lowland areas they have a decidedly silty-clay texture, the latter form of the accumulated ? sediments in particular – it has created a surface crust that, drying up, has fragmented into typical polygonal structures.

In this perspective, and to obtain more objective preliminary information about the nature and physical and chemical characteristics of the deposited alluvial sediments, the following day, Friday 4 August, Prof. Vianello went to two sites, visited the previous day, carrying out a timely reconnaissance and collecting samples for rapid analysis delivered to the laboratories. The Laboratories' Investigations Ecosistemi they are of fundamental importance for estimating the damage caused by the flood event but even more so for predicting what future consequences may manifest themselves on agricultural production due to the change in the fertility of the affected areas.
