The article presents the results of a study on the hydraulic properties of the soil and the vegetation cover of the landfill located in Piacenza (Borgotrebbia ? Campo Santo Vecchio), together with the attempt to correlate the hydraulic properties in relation to the vegetable cover.

The measured soil water retention curve was first compared with the results of the pedofunctions taken from the literature and then compared with the output of the same pedotransfer functions applied to a reference soil. The plant cover of the landfill has also been studied. The relationship between the hydraulic properties of the soil and the vegetation cover showed that the soils of the landfill have a low content of water available to the plants. The low water content of the soils, together with the lack of depth and a compact structure, justifies the presence of a type of nitrophic vegetation, disturbed, dominated by ephemeral (terophytic) annual species.
