The harvesting of the seeds of the monumental trees of the province of Piacenza has begun.
The initiative is designed to give shape to the idea of Ecosistemi the preservation of the genetic inheritance of historical and monumental specimens present in the Piacenza area.
After harvesting, the seeds will be catalogued and germinated also through the various treatments of scarification, vernalization and summering necessary.
After the germination phase the seedlings will be cultivated in a protected environment and, upon reaching development, planted in the suitable sites of the Piacenza territory. The first specimen collected is the country elm (Ulmus minor) of Villanova sull’Arda (Protection measure: D.P.G. R. 677/89 32 – 34) a monumental specimen of about 30 m in height and 480 cm in circumference of the trunk.
Rear annotation: Unfortunately, the specimen of the elm of Villanova has been shot down, Ecosistemi regretting to note the end of this specimen, as unfortunately of many others, has the consolation of having handed down his offspring that still grows on the soils reconstituted in our restoration intervention in Borgotrebbia
